The ThermoSoil RootWarmer Plant warmer heating system uses a flexible heating liner that creates optimal soil temperatures to promote the growth of larger, healthier and higher quality disease-resistant plants indoors with greater yields.
The RootWarmer heating liner sits between the included 5-gallon Smart Pot fabric container and the soil. The heating liner warms the soil to the temperature set on the included thermostat. This creates a stable root zone temperature to increase root strength, metabolic function, and improve water and nutrient intake. With stable, uniform soil warmth and improved aeration, water draining and heat release from the Smart Pot container, you get bigger, stronger plants that yield more in less time.
The way the ThermoSoil RootWarmer system heats the soil in the Smart Pot fabric container imitates how ground soil warms gradually and consistently in nature, providing a stable root zone temperature. This eliminates temperature fluctuation stress that destroys plant cells and inhibits plant growth while creating more beneficial soil probiotics for healthier roots and a reduced photosynthesis cycle time while reducing energy costs.
While each ThermoSoil RootWarmer system helps grow a single plant, you can use more RootWarmer systems together for larger container growing as long as the plant warmer heating liner does not overlap itself or another liner. Not only is the ThermoSoil RootWarmer system highly efficient, but it is also easy to use. Skip to main content. Only 1 left in stock - order soon. Add to Cart. Secure transaction. The mat can raise soil temperatures 15 to 20 degrees F, yet it uses less electricity than a 40 watt bulb. Using the Heat Mat The Heat Mat can be placed under flats of cuttings, seeds, or under individual pots. Unroll the mat before plugging it in. Center flats or pots on the mat. To vary the amount of heat, place a saucer, coaster, pot holder, or thin piece of wood between the mat and the base of the container.
As the distance between the heat source and the base of the plant increases, soil temperature decreases. It may take up to 24 hours for the soil temperature to increase and level off especially with large pots of soil. When germinating seeds, you can help keep soil moist by covering the seed flats or containers with clear plastic wrap or use covers which accompany many growing trays.
Do not allow the growing medium to dry out. Be sure to remove the plastic as soon as seedlings emerge. Check the soil temperature occasionally to be sure it remains near the optimum temperature recommended in the chart at the end of this bulletin. You can monitor temperatures with a propagation or soil thermometer, available from our catalog or many garden centers. After seeds have germinated, remove the heat mat and move growing containers to a sunny windowsill or under grow lights.
Once they have germinated, seedlings no longer require high soil temperatures. If you are growing in a cool room 50 degrees F or less you may wish to leave your seedlings on the heat mat with added distance between the flats and the mat see step 2. Cuttings can be left on the mat until roots are well established. It is not rated for use outside. If you have any questions, contact us at: info gardeners.

Do I keep it on after the seeds germinate? Here are the answers.
Check out Norm Deno's seed germination theory and practice online for a great, free seed-starting resource. Answer: Yes.
Leave the heat mat on and set to the same temperature 24 hours a day until the seeds sprout. The idea of turning it off at night usually springs from the observation that the earth cools at night and warms up again in the day, thanks to the sun. Seeds do not need that cyclical cooling to sprout, however, and in fact they will germinate more quickly with constant warmth. So leave the seed-starting heat mat on all the time.
Answer: No. Turn the seed-starting heat mat off and put it away once the seedlings come up. Leaving it on may spur rapid, lanky, weak growth or encourage fungal diseases at the soil level. Smart Gardening. Garden Maintenance. Book Reviews. Beneficial Wildlife.

A heating coil runs through a plastic or rubber mat, providing gentle warmth to pamper your seedlings and get them off to a good start. You place the seedling heat mat under the flat and plug it in.
It works to raise the temperature of the seed flat 10 to 20 degrees above the ambient air temperature by bottom-heating it. If you keep your home cool to tamp down utility costs, seedling heat mats provide a focused heat source, so that the seeds can enjoy their preferred 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit even in a degree room.
Heating pads can also help establish root cuttings kept in a garage or shed. The seed mat needs to go on a dry surface without standing water. It works better on a wooden tabletop or other insulated surface rather than a concrete floor to effectively warm the flat.
Place the flat on the mat -- and a humidity dome on the flat -- to help keep warm, moist air in place for the germinating seeds.
As soon as the seeds sprout, unplug and remove the heat mat, as it keeps the soil temperatures too high for growing seedlings, which may become leggy. Or rotate a new flat onto the mat and grow your seedlings in stages, starting multiple flats on one mat. Better yet, store the mat flat from year to year in its original box.
